On this day, the 29th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder in New York City, and in light of President Obama’s speech on ending the conflict in Afghanistan in recent days, let’s think about this statement that John and Yoko proclaimed so many years ago.
Hello my friends, and welcome to “Scribbles’, my latest attempt at blogging. Some of you are familiar with me from my past blogs,Muley’s Cafe andMuley’s Cafe 2.0, for which we talked mainly about the politics and happenings in my home town ofLorain, Ohio.
We are NOT going there anymore, time to move on and leave Lorain for the good citizens of Lorain and their elected officials to deal with. I have completely settled in to my new digs here in Wilmington, N.C., having remarried the love of my life, Patty (thank you Mr. Google) and I will try to keep focused on “all things Wilmington”.
Soooooooo, let’s roll……..
Last thursday, July 23rd. we ventured down to Carolina Beach to The Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar for a little live “accoustic” music by a singer/songwriter named Charlie Mars, who just happens to get a fair amount of air play on the local radio station that I listen to, The Penguin. Well. I have to say I was blown away, not by the music, but just the atmosphere that was on display that evening. Remnants of the old Center Pier built in 1949, the Ocean Grill and Tkki Bar came about when hurricanes Bertha and Fran came to town in 1996 and turned the majority of the pier into kindling and landscaping art. The “Tiki” bar at the end is soooo cool with it’s “bright” paint job and the beautiful sunset that I would think it to be nearly impossible for anyone to not have a good time.
As we sat on the railing enjoying it all, I noticed alot of people just sitting on the beach with their beach chairs turned to take in the sweet sounds coming from the pier above them, obviously I wasn’t alone in my enjoyment.
….and Charlie may have had something to do with it.
Take a listen and I think you’ll agree……..
If you have never been to the Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar, their located at 1211 S Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach. Although I haven’t eaten any thing from their menu, they have a very large selection of entree’s, sandwiches and appetizers to choose from, which can be viewed here.
